Tourist Day in Nerja
In late September Nerja celebrates Tourist Day: the Tourism Ambassador and Honorary Tourist awards, tributes to the tourism sector and a free concert. 2026 was its 20th edition.
Every year, around 27 September (World Tourism Day), Nerja holds its own Tourist Day: a way of thanking those who choose the town for their holidays and those who work in tourism. The 20th edition took place in 2026.
The official ceremony
It is held in the gardens of the Nerja Cave. In alternate years the town awards the title of Honorary Tourist (to well-known people who regularly holiday in Nerja, such as Pastora Soler, María Garralón or Juanjo Artero) and that of Tourism Ambassador (to local people or organisations that promote the town; in 2026, the athlete María Narváez, who also received the Gold Tourism Shield). Since 2016 there have also been awards for groups of tourism workers: waiters, receptionists, cooks, shop assistants…
The party
In the afternoon the celebration moves to the streets: dance performances on the Balcón de Europa and a free concert in Plaza de España (Merche in 2026).
