Beach bars (chiringuitos) in Nerja

A chiringuito is a restaurant right on the beach: tables on the sand or on a terrace above it, fish and seafood, rice dishes and cold drinks. In Nerja most of them are on Burriana beach, the longest and liveliest, with others at Torrecilla, El Playazo and the coves towards Maro.

The dish to try is the espeto: sardines threaded on a cane skewer and grilled over embers, often in an old boat filled with sand. Paella is the other classic; at Burriana, Ayo has been cooking it over a wood fire since 1970. The ranking above shows the best-rated beach bars by Google reviews.
