Feria de Maro

The Feria de Maro, also known as the Feria de las Maravillas, is an intimate and authentic festival in the small village of Maro, with street parties, gastronomy and a family atmosphere.

Feria de Maro 2027: it will be held in the days leading up to 8 September 2027, the feast of the Virgen de las Maravillas; dates and programme are announced in late August. Below, how the 2026 fair went.

The Feria de Maro, popularly known as the Feria de las Maravillas, is one of the most authentic and endearing celebrations in the municipality of Nerja. From 4 to 8 September 2026, this small village in the Axarquía was once again filled with music, tradition, food and activities for all ages in honour of its patron saint, the Virgen de las Maravillas.

Unlike larger fairs, the Feria de Maro keeps an intimate, family-friendly character that makes it a unique experience. For five days, locals and visitors share decorated streets, open-air dances, concerts, children's activities and a programme that keeps alive the customs at the heart of Maro's identity.

Feria de Maro 2026 programme

This year's programme was presented by deputy mayor Ana María Muñoz, the councillor for the Fiesta Mayor, Elena Gálvez, Maro's local mayor, Nuchi Moreno, and representatives of the festival committee. Nerja Town Council has allocated a budget of €113,350 to the celebration.

The fair opens on 4 September with the traditional pregón (opening speech), given this year by the Niñas de Maro, starting five days of community, fun and tradition.

Concerts and performances

Music is once again one of the big attractions of the Feria de las Maravillas. The programme includes performances for all audiences, including:

  • Tribute to Manuel Carrasco.
  • Grupo Brumas.
  • José Manuel Soto.
  • DJ Manuel Moreno.
  • Orquesta Vértigo.
  • Grupo Al Alba.
  • Live music from Brass Town.
  • Performances by local dance academies.

Activities for the whole family

The Feria de Maro keeps its essence by bringing back some of its most traditional activities, including children's activities, the traditional race and the election of the Festival Queen and her Ladies, along with other events for young and old alike.

The Club Cultural Equitación y Enganche San Isidro also played a big part, organising activities linked to the local equestrian tradition and running a marquee with music during the fair.

The procession of the Virgen de las Maravillas

The most moving moment of the fiestas comes on 8 September with the traditional procession of the Virgen de las Maravillas, patron saint of Maro. It is one of the most important and best-loved events of these historic fiestas, when locals and visitors accompany the patron saint through the village streets.

Food and tradition

The Feria de Maro is also a great opportunity to enjoy the traditional cuisine of the Axarquía. During these days, the stalls and local bars are full of atmosphere and offer some of the area's most typical flavours, such as migas, choto al ajillo (kid goat with garlic), espetos (sardine skewers), traditional sweets and local wines.

Food joins music, popular traditions and festive activities to complete one of the most eagerly awaited celebrations in Maro's calendar.

A unique atmosphere in Maro

One of the main attractions of the Feria de las Maravillas is precisely its human scale and friendly atmosphere. The streets of the small village of Maro are decorated for the occasion and the celebration keeps a genuine, welcoming, family character.

Locals, families and visitors share the different events in a setting where tradition still takes centre stage. If you want to experience an authentic village fiesta during your stay in Nerja, the Feria de Maro is an excellent chance to get to know the customs of this Costa del Sol village up close.

Maro invites locals and visitors to enjoy the fair

Maro's local mayor, Nuchi Moreno, encouraged people from Maro, Nerja and visitors to join the celebration:

“We want to invite everyone to make the most of the Feria de las Maravillas, take part in its activities and accompany our patron saint, who is the heart of these historic fiestas.”

Moreno also congratulated Maro's festival committee on organising the programme.

For her part, the councillor for the Fiesta Mayor, Elena Gálvez, highlighted the traditional, family character of the fiestas:

“This fair is about tradition, family, coming together and, above all, Maro's love for its patron saint. We hope everyone enjoys these days and accompanies the Virgen de las Maravillas with the joy and respect she deserves.”
