La Torrecilla Beach

Western Nerja's town beach, with a Blue Flag: about 300 m of dark sand on the seafront promenade, beach bars, summer lifeguards and step-free access.

La Torrecilla Beach is the town beach of western Nerja: about 300 metres of dark sand between the Mirador de la Torrecilla, the headland that separates it from El Chucho, and the Plaza de los Cangrejos. The seafront promenade runs right along the sand, with hotels, apartments and restaurants a few steps away, and the Balcón de Europa is about a 12-minute walk.

Facilities

It has a Blue Flag (renewed in 2026), lifeguards during the bathing season, showers, toilets, sunloungers and parasols for hire, and beach bars along the promenade. Like Burriana and El Playazo, it has an accessible point: a ramp, a walkway down to the water's edge and an adapted toilet, with the equipment renewed by the town council in July 2026.

What it is like

Several groynes split it into sections and soften the waves, which are usually moderate. The dark sand gets very hot at midday and there is some gravel and small stones at the water's edge, so water shoes help. It is the most convenient beach near the centre and one of the busiest: in July and August arrive before 11 am or after 6 pm. At sunset, walk up to the Mirador de la Torrecilla for the view along the western coast.

Why it is called La Torrecilla

It takes its name from the watchtower that stood on the headland at the western end, where the Mirador de la Torrecilla is today. It was one of the towers guarding the coast of Nerja since Nasrid times; around 1773 a new one was built, horseshoe-shaped and with room for two cannons, and it was destroyed in 1812, during the Peninsular War. Its remains can still be seen beside the viewpoint.

Heading west past the viewpoint, the coast continues along El Chucho to El Playazo. To park, use the free Avenida del Mediterráneo car park. Compare it with the rest in our guide to Nerja's beaches.
