Hostal Marissal

Hostal Marissal (Marissal by Dorobe Hotels) is on the Balcón de Europa square itself, at number 3, between El Salón beach and Calahonda beach, which is a minute away. It is hard to sleep closer to the Balcón for less: from around €50 a night in low season. It is rated 3.7 on Google and 4 on Tripadvisor.

Rooms. Spacious and simple, with air conditioning, free wifi, a safe and a flat-screen TV; the mini-fridge costs extra. Some have a French balcony overlooking the promenade or the sea. There is also a two-bedroom apartment with kitchen and living room, and children up to 5 stay free with an adult.

Facilities. A bar-café with pavement tables on the promenade, a lounge, lift and laundry. No parking and no pets.

What reviews say. Opinions are very divided: the location, the views and the cleanliness are almost always praised, but there are serious complaints about the attitude of some staff, dated rooms and furniture, and problems with breakfast and the restaurant.
