Hotel Balcón de Europa has the best location of any hotel in Nerja: it sits on the Balcón de Europa itself (Plaza Balcón de Europa 1), on the cliff, with access to the beach below and a few steps from El Salvador church and the town's busiest shopping and restaurant streets. It is one of the most traditional four-star hotels on the Costa del Sol, rated 4.4 on Google (more than 3,100 reviews) and 4.3 on Tripadvisor.

Rooms. Elegant, with marble floors, air conditioning, minibar, free wifi and a flat-screen TV. Superior rooms have a furnished balcony with sea views, suites have a sitting area, and superior suites a whirlpool bath. The views are the most praised feature; the main criticism is that some rooms feel a little dated.

Facilities. Outdoor pool, sun terrace, two restaurants with sea views, café and bar, room service, massages, 24-hour reception and meeting rooms. The breakfast buffet is varied and well rated; the restaurants' food is less convincing.

Practical details. Check-in from 14:00 and check-out by 12:00. No pets. Arriving by car is not easy, as it is in the middle of the pedestrian area: there is parking nearby, but ask the hotel before you arrive. It is expensive in high season (from around €220 a night in August), but few places in Nerja put the Balcón on your doorstep. Compare it with others in hotels in Nerja.
