Chanquete’s Boat (La Dorada)

The Barco de Chanquete, also known as "La Dorada 1ª", is a famous boat located in Nerja, a picturesque coastal town in the province of Málaga, Spain. This boat became famous thanks to the popular Spanish television series "Verano Azul", broadcast in the 1980s.

The Barco de Chanquete, known as La Dorada, is one of the most cherished and visited spots in Nerja. This boat became famous throughout Spain thanks to the iconic television series Verano Azul, broadcast in the 1980s, in which it was the home of the beloved fisherman Chanquete.

The Dorada in the series was never a real boat: it was a set placed on land, on a hill with vegetable plots above Burriana beach, and it was dismantled when filming ended. The boat you can visit today is a replica in Parque Verano Azul, now a place of pilgrimage for several generations who grew up with the gang’s adventures.

Visiting the Barco de Chanquete is to immerse yourself in the collective memory of Verano Azul and discover the very special bond that unites Nerja with this series. It is a stop full of nostalgia and one of the most sought-after photos for those who tour the town in the footsteps of the filming: see where Verano Azul was filmed and the walking route around its locations.

Where Chanquete’s boat is and how to get there

The replica of La Dorada stands in Verano Azul Park, by Calle Antonio Ferrandis “Chanquete”, on the western side of Nerja town centre. It is about 700 metres, a 10-minute walk, from the Balcón de Europa. It is free and you can see it at any time: the park is public and always open.

If you come by car, the Verano Azul car park right next to it is paid and open 24 hours.

The original Dorada

In the series, the Dorada was Chanquete’s home, beached on a hillside of vegetable plots above the eastern end of Burriana beach. It was never a real boat but a film set, taken down when shooting ended, as you see in the last episode. Nothing is left of it: the replica in the park is the one you can visit today, and the Burriana hillside is on the Verano Azul route around Nerja.
